On Sunday December 6, there was a gathering outside the fenced site of the two cheetahs, Kushki and Delbar, in Tehran to celebrate International Cheetah Day and the start of the 6th educational and recreational tour of the game guards of cheetah habitats in Iran. Distinguished guests present at this event included Mr. Gary Lewis, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Iran and Mr. Murali, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Iran. Dr. Ebtekar, the head of Iran’s Department of Environment, welcomed all guests and media representatives and spoke briefly about the cheetah program. Mr. Houman Jowkar, the director of the international Conservation of Asiatic Cheetah Program (CACP) greeted the game guards and appreciated their relentless efforts in saving the remaining population of Asiatic cheetahs in Iran. The managing director of the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation, who was also present at the event, presented valuable gifts to the game guards in fulfillment of part of the PWHF’s commitments to the Second Document of the CACP to honor and acknowledge their crucial role in the conservation of this critically endangered species.
