Special workshops for boat operators in the Bay of Dolphins

The Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation in collaboration with Environmental Management Bureau of Qeshm Free Area and with funding from the Small Grants Program of the UNDP in Iran is running a project to conserve bottlenose dolphins in the coastal region between Qeshm and Hengam or the so-called Bay of Dolphins. To ease pressure on dolphins by visitors to the island, the PWHF held specialized workshops for boat operators involved in offshore tourism in late October 2014. The workshops, concentrating on dolphins, were held in the villages of Soheili, Tabl, Deirestan, Hengam, and Shib-deraz. ُThe workshops sought to teach scientific principles of dolphin watching in the sessions. Boat operators who attended the workshops received tablets bearing guidelines for conducting eco-friendly dolphin watching. Boat operators are instructed to teach visitors the essential rules that they need to obey throughout the trip.

It is worth mentioning that requiring visitors to abide by these guidelines not only helps save aquatic creatures like dolphins but will also help conserve sensitive ecological environments such as coral reefs and habitats formed around it.
