The National Asiatic Cheetah Day Festival in Turan Biosphere Reserve
The National Asiatic Cheetah Day Festival in Turan Biosphere Reserve

The National Asiatic Cheetah Day was celebrated on Thursday, 3 September 2015 in the city of Beyarjomand. The Festival was a sign for the goodwill and cooperation of local people and government alike, to protect the Asiatic Cheetah in one of its largest habitats and thus spells hope for the future of this species.

The Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation (PWHF) with the cooperation and support of the Conservation of the Asiatic Cheetah Project (CACP), X-Vision, BoomPazhuhan Society, Semnan Directorate of Environment, the Islamic Council, Municipality and people of Beyarjomand, Turan Biosphere Reserve Administration, the Rural Councils and people of Qal’e Bala and Ahmad Abad Villages were responsible for this festival.

The community based organizations of BoomPazhuhan Society، Tanin-e Tabi’at-e Tirgan from Shahroud along with the Protectors of Cheetah Habitat from Ahmad Abad and the people of Qal’e Bala and Beyarjomand each play their part in the conservation of the Asiatic Cheetah and Turan Biosphere Reserve and their presence at the festival helped strengthen the responsible staff of the Department of Environment and the Gameguards in their belief in their work.

The festival tried to present the conservation of nature and local culture in an entertaining way for all age groups. The activities included running and tug-o-war competitions, screening of short films, and a children’s booth with book-reading, painting, origami and face-painting. The activities were well received by all ages and even the older citizens participated in the contests. X-Vision kindly provided the prizes for the competitions, but also had gifts for all guests.

The handicraft booths of Qal’e Bala and Ahmad Abad villages were arguably the most beautiful part of the festival and very well received by the guests of the festival. The people of this village generously provided food and beverages for all participants.
