Biking in support of dolphins
Biking in support of dolphins

Following his interest in the conservation of the dolphin project in Qeshm and Hengam islands and his growing concern regarding the threats that encompass the species, Kourosh Behzadi, a biker from Tehran, pedaled 1850 kilometers from Tehran to Qeshm Island in May and June 2013 in support of this marine mammal.
Kourosh Behzadi had first heard of the dolphins’ situation from a Qeshm local and sought consultation from protectors of the environment, specifically the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation (PWHF). He therefore decided to dedicate his trip to supporting the dolphins. During this 33 day trip, the biker pedaled 70 to 135 kilometers each day. He would tell the story of the dolphins wherever he stopped on his way to Qeshm and gathered autographs of people on a parchment to later show to the boatmen of Qeshm and Hengam how people cared about this animal.
This initiative was supported by the PWHF, the main operator of the first phase of the dolphin conservation project in waters surrounding Qeshm and Hengam islands, and has always benefited from the assistance provided by the Qeshm Free Zone Organization. This project operates with the financial support of the SGP/GEF/UNDP.
In his first experience in 2012, Kourosh Behzadi pedaled 1680 kilometers in 12 days in support of the Urumiyeh Lake.
